Sen. Lewis has filed the following bills to address environmental and energy issues:

  • An Act to reduce solid waste, increase recycling and generate municipal cost savings: Consistent with the vision of achieving zero waste in the state’s Solid Waste Master Plan, this bill implements a number of strategies for reducing solid waste and increasing recycling in the Commonwealth.  These strategies include setting specific municipal recycling performance targets, strengthening oversight and enforcement of waste bans, strengthening regulation of waste haulers, and improving the collection and reporting of solid waste data.  Increased funding to implement these strategies will be provided by a $1.50 surcharge assessed per ton of solid waste disposed.
  • An Act relative to utility data transparency and access: This bill requires utility companies to share aggregate energy usage data with municipalities upon request.
  • An Act to authorize license plates to encourage safe streets for bicycles: This bill creates a license plate to encourage safe streets for bicycles. The proceeds from the purchase of these license plates would go to the complete streets program.
